Welcome (Reception Area)
Welcome to Symbient Product Development. We will do our best to make you feel welcome during all phases of the development cycle. One of the most rewarding aspects of our jobs is to get to establish great relationships with our customers. Developing medical products is difficult, intense and rigourous. That does not mean it can’t also be fun. We look forward to meeting you soon.
Brainstorm/Conference Room
This is where we get together and define requirements, work out problems or come up with new ideas. Some of the best ideas come from collaborative brainstorming meetings between our engineers and our customers. We have created a comfortable environment to facilitate this process.
Engineering Area
Converting an idea into a detailed design requires specialized software and expertise. Symbient has invested in engineers with decades of experience in medical product development and given them the tools they need to excel. Symbient uses Solidworks for our 3D modeling, Cosmosworks for finite element analysis and Camworks to convert these files to machine language. We also have specialized software for analyzing tolerance stackups called TolAnalyst and a suite of Industrial design software including Bunkspeed Hypershot and Adobe Illustrator.
SLA Rapid Prototyping Area
This is where we fabricate our first prototypes using Sterilithography (SLA). Our 3D Systems Viper machine produces parts that are accurate, robust and clear to allow for visualization of internal functions. We are able to perform much of our early proof of concept testing using these prototypes.
Prototype Shop/Machining Area
Our machine shop includes 2 Haas CNC Mills, a CNC Lathe and a variety of other equipment required to fabricate precision parts, fixtures and prototype injection molds. We are able to seamlessly covert our Solidworks files to machine language using Camworks. By providing these services internally, we are able to go from design to machined parts in a day and to molded parts in a week.
Molding Area
At Symbient we offer in house injection and LIM silicone prototype molding. Our 38 ton Arburg is a production molding machine which allows us to replicate production conditions early in the development process and to avoid issues that would typically occur during transfer to manufacturing. Our in-house mold fabrication and molding capabilities allow us to move with unrivaled speed. We are able to mold parts, test, make mold adjustments and mold another iteration of parts all within 1-2 days.
Assembly/Testing Area
In this area we have equipment that allows us to perform several plastic assembly processes such as ultrasonic welding, UV bonding, swaging, solvent bonding, pressure sensitive adhesive and heat sealing. This is also where we build units to support design verification or clinical trials. This area also features critical testing and inspection equipment such as a 3D video measurement machine, force gauges, pressure calibrators, balance, laboratory oven, temperature gauges, flow meters and torque gauges, which allows us to perform a wide variety of custom testing setups and test method development.
Materials Area
We stock a wide array of medical USP Class IV materials for injection molding and LIM silicone molding. Materials can take several weeks to receive so it's important to maintain a large stock of materials in order to minimize the product development timeline. Typically more than one material will meet application requirements so we will mold parts in multiple materials and test to determine which material functions best.
